Independence Day
In 1983 sanghatana decided
to celebrate Independence Day at Dipivali village. Where in
july 1983 first batch of bonded laboures had been released.
15th August arrived with heavy rains. First bonded labourers
gathered to salute the national flag. Bonded labour keepers
came & forced the sanghatana to stop the function &
police was with these loards. Next year in 1984 sanghatana
declared that they would salute the national flag at Dipivali
it self, after this declaration the landloards, keepers of
bonded labours arrived with police.
Sec 37 (1) & 3 of the Bombay police act were applied by
the police & the gathering was declared as illegal. The
police cordoned off the area as an attempt to stop the peaceful
gathering of tribals to salute the flag on independence day.
The women along with the Vidyullata pandit led the gathering,
as they broke through the ranks of the police & saluted
the flag. Cases were registered & nine activists were
jailed . Vidyullata went to a jail with her three year old
daughter. the incident hit the headlines, & sanghatana
received sympathy from all quarters. The state government
withdrew the case & released the activists.
Since 1984 Independence Day celebration is a major event on
calendar of Vidhayak sansad. Independence day is very special
celebration among these tribals, where in all the institution
or in various government offices it celebrated because of
compulsion but in Vidhayak sansad all tribals celebrate it
without any compulsion. They come to celebrate the independence
day by spending their own money for traveling and other expenses.
Even for this celebration they never think about the loss
in their daily wages. They come from their remote villages,
hamlets at Usgoan campus all gathered here & from here
this independence rally walked four km of distance to reach
at Ganeshpuri where they do the tribute to tricolor, listen
the speeches carefully & enjoy it as any religious festival
they enjoyed. Song, dance, slogans are as integral part of
this rally.
Every year one month before of Independence day v.s organised
the drive for specific social issues. Which directly affect
on the lives of tribals or common people. After finalization
of that issue for drive we try to create attentiveness about
the issue among these people & for that one year this
issue become priority in our Agenda of work. We concrete strategies
to tackle with that issues.
The first drive was starts in year 1997 which was the golden
jubilee year of Independence. So we explain the importance
of Independence & the meanings of independence among these
tribals through this drive. & till yet we touch various
issues through this medium, some different are as follows
like Global warming, Bal shiksha abhiyan, contribution of
women freedom fighter in independence , fund collection for
Kargil martyrs.
Dance Festival
Sometimes the cause of celebration is just celebration of being alive. Every year hundreds of members come together to observe Nach Melawa. Different tribes have their distinct dance forms. People dance the gouri, the tarapa, the dabaa-dhol & the combadya till dawn. The dance festival is great attraction for friends & supporters from Mumbai, who join the tribals in their celebrations. Sanghatana believes in victories & each victory is celebrated, repression is converted into another cause for celebration, celebration is like an integral part of their lives & their idea of celebration is just song, dance & laughter.
The aim to organize this festival is to secure old traditions of tribals through it. They all come together on this event. Youth generation of tribals is now educated & they migrate at Urban areas for their live hood but on this event they come at there native place & enjoy the festival of their old tradition, culture. It like get together where they not only share the thoughts, They share their cultural values with each other.
